Teutonic Knights

The Teutonic Knights, or Teutonic Order, was founded as a militiristic, catholic order of knights in the 12th Century during the crusades and within a couple of hundred years had become a state in its own right allied to the Holy Roman Empire.

By the start of 19th Century, the order had lost most of its power and land, and became more focused on aiding Christians in need of aid.

NapolĂ©on Bonaparte ordered it’s dissolution in 1809 and somewhat forced the order to comply.

Due to French diplomacy, the remaining members of the order followed in the footsteps of their Templar cousins and fled to the British Isles.
